A few days ago Ali met his colleague Ali Eren Yüksel and recorded a poem by Karacaoğlan, with a traditional melody from Anatolia. There, Ali Eren sings and plays tembur and bağlamas and Ali Doğan sings.

You can easily find many recordings of poems written or credited by Karacaoğlan, for example by searching Youtube for his name. He was a poet who lived in the 17th century. It is not clear where he was born but according to Antoloji, “the rumor that he was born in Farsak village of Düziçi district of Osmaniye province is gaining weight.” In the same source they explain that “Karacaoğlan’s poems are based on love and nature. Separation, expatriation, longing for sila and death are the subjects he touches on the most.[…] He wrote in Turkish with the daily spoken language of Anatolian people in that era. The number of Arabic and Persian words he uses is small. He uses local words intensively.”

According to Britannica, Karacaoğlan is “one of the few historically datable folk poets, give a vivid picture of village life, of the plight of girls and boys in remote Anatolian settlements.”

The recording will be released in a few weeks. In the meantime, feel free to follow Ali Eren on his Instagram.
